The Town
Olbia is on the north-eastern cost of Sardinia, not far from “Costa Smeralda” , where all the italians (but not only italians) wish they could spend their holidays. The Costa Smeralda (which derives it's name from the amazing and unique in the world emerald colour of its sea), situated between Olbia and the arcipelago of La Maddalena, where popular hero Garibaldi lived after he “made Italy”, it's well-known for its natural beauties, the enchanting extra-fine white sandy beaches, the crystal-clear water, the multiform rocks, the romantic bays, the typical mediterranean vegetation, the pure air, the nice climate, the marine parks, the excursion-routes, the divine cheese and wines, the archaeological wealth, heritage of the mythical nuragic civilization, flourished on the island thousands years ago. Olbia is a good place for people willing to join the learning of the italian language to other activities (discovery of the local culture and environment, socialization, sport, relax, amusement and so on); it fits different needs, also according with the season: the summer is the most suitable time for people laying more stress on the “holiday” component, willing to relax on lovely beaches and to maximize the opportunities of society life (mostly concentrated in the beautiful villages of the coast); other seasons are more advisable for people interested not only in the amusement, still possible, but also in a more intensive studying, in a deeper socialization with the local people, in the discovery of the nature, in excursions, in archaeology, living the “every-day” Italy, more genuine and “man-dimensioned”. The town has a good location and it's easy to reach it from other parts of Europe, thanks to numerous low cost airline connections; it's possible, from Olbia, to reach the most interesting natural, archaeological, tourist and seaside places, situated in the outskirts; it's easy and cheap to reach other regions of the mainland by sea, for people willing to visit also other italian cities. Olbia is a good base for living and studying, a perfect starting point also for visiting other places in the outskirts after the lesson or in the weekend. Olbia is a small town of about 60000 people: the small city centre, situated closely to the roman port, is provided with cafés , ice-cream shops, restaurants and the library, that make it nice, in the free time, to walk about, shopping, trying the genuine italian food, tasting a glass of good wine, meeting people, practicing the language and studying. |
